About this artwork

Lord Braxfield was said to be the best lawyer in Scotland, however his later fame owes more to his reputation as a ‘hanging judge’ and the role he played in the trial of Thomas Muir and other radicals in 1793 for sedition. One quote attributed to him relating to these events was ‘Let them bring me prisoners, and I will find them law’. He was also known for delivering numerous quips delivered in broad Scots.
