About this artwork
One of the issues highlighted by Kirsty Mackay’s series is the number of drug-related deaths in Scotland – by far the highest in Europe. In 2020, living in the most deprived areas of Scotland were eighteen times more likely to have a drug-related death compared to those in the most affluent places. This poignant photograph is a stark reminder of the human lives lost and the investment and initiatives needed to bring the death rate down.
