About this artwork

In the late 1990s, Edinburgh-born Gail Porter became a familiar face on British TV, presenting shows including Fully Booked, Top of the Pops and The Big Breakfast. In the mid-2000s, Porter developed alopecia, a condition which caused her to lose her hair. Her refusal to wear a wig, along with her willingness to speak openly about her mental health and financial debt will, she hopes, help to de-stigmatise the struggles she herself has faced and encourage others to reach out when they need support. She is an ambassador for various charities, including the Samaritans and the Little Princess Trust which provides wigs made of real hair free of charge to children and young people experiencing hair loss.
