Peter Blake, b.1932. Artist
About this artwork
This is a captivating and slightly unnerving portrait of the artist Peter Blake. It shows the artist backed into a corner of his home in west London with windows on either side and caught in the bright flash from the camera. Blake is renowned as a pioneer of Pop Art in Britain. He is perhaps best known for co-designing. with his then-wife Jann Haworth, the sleeve of The Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album in 1967. His work combined images from pop culture and fine art and often includes elements of collage. In 2002 Blake received a knighthood for his services to art.
