Peacock
About this artwork
This woodcut shows a peacock within the grounds of what appears to be a country house. The composition does not include what a peacock is perhaps most famous for; his large, spectacular tail, although the rich colouring does capture something of the peacock’s familiar iridescent plumage. Seaby is known for his images of birds and other wildlife. This early print employs a key-block which gives a heavy, dark outline, distinctive of Seaby’s work of this period.
