About this artwork

There were a variety of trades needed to make mines work. This mine is on a smaller scale, but the big pits were also training centres for specialist electricians, engineers, surveyors and shot firers. 'Just because you dug coal, you wir'nae just like a labourer. People learned a trade. There were aw' different people worked in the coalmines.' Alan Mackie, Lochore Miners' Welfare Social Club, Fife, 20 August 2023.
