Family of Miners, Scotland, 1982
About this artwork
Rogovin liked to capture miners’ families gathered in their living rooms in front of the fireplace and he took many photographs in this style. Glimpsing these interiors allows us to see the miners in another context – men with wives, children, hobbies and pets. The families never appear too posed, each group looks natural and like they might have arranged themselves. The way this family are positioned around an image of Christ on the cross in this photo suggests religion is at the centre of their lives.
