The Fiery Dragon (for 'XXI Welsh Gypsy Folk-Tales')
About this artwork
In this finely detailed wood engraving Miller Parker illustrates the gothic tale of ‘The Fiery Dragon’. It is one of a series of illustrations produced for the book ‘XXI Welsh Gypsy Folk Tales’, a collection of Welsh traveller stories gathered together by the Irish scholar and linguist John Sampson. Parker explored a new and more daring approach in these engravings, capturing a sense of action and drama that had not been seen before in her previous work. The book was published in a limited edition of 250 by Gregynog Press in 1933.
