About this artwork

In this short, hypnotic video, Dove conjures up an imaginary world of colour, movement and sound. The artist created the work by animating her own watercolour paintings. The elements are choreographed together, moving and merging in a constant flow. Shifting gradually from light to dark, the work seems to trace the passage of time, from day to night. Sometimes suggestive of imagery from the natural world, and at other times abstracted, the visuals are accompanied by a soundtrack composed by the artist. Dove was interested in the psychological and sensory impacts of image-making. She once noted that, ‘It is a sense of wonder that is the starting point for all my work. The starting point could be an automatic drawing, a feeling of awe inspired by nature, or simply an awareness of the creative process operating.’
