Screaming Skeleton
About this artwork
'I have this ridiculous feeling that once you are dead you can do exactly as you like and no one will make any comment… When I do these skeletons it never enters my head that you are denied the power of speech or the ability to attract men after you are dead'. This work is almost identical in style and composition to Woman in a Landscape yet vastly different because of its title. This is one of five lithographic prints bought as a set by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 1975. In 1974 Douthwaite was awarded the prestigious Hope Scott Trust award for her lithography.
