Screaming Skeleton
About this artwork
'I have this ridiculous feeling that once you are dead you can do exactly as you like and no one will make any comment… When I do these skeletons it never enters my head that you are denied the power of speech or the ability to attract men after you are dead' . This work is almost identical in style and composition to 'Woman in a Landscape' (GMA 1343) yet vastly different because of its title. This is one of five lithographic prints bought as a set by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 1975. In 1974 Douthwaite was awarded the prestigious Hope Scott Trust award for her lithography.
