Larry Herman

New Housing; Hutcheson Town Court, The Gorbals

About this artwork

In 1974 Herman visited Glasgow and, inspired by the city and its people, spent a period of time documenting the various industries and shipyards along the River Clyde. He also portrayed people from the towns and communities next to or near the River. The old tenements of the Gorbals were torn down in the 1960s and new high-rise buildings were erected in their place. Gone were the derelict back courts; instead grassy verges became a welcome play area.
