The Kingdom of Fife
About this artwork
Fife is often referred to as The Kingdom (of Fife) because of its historic associations with Scotland’s monarchy. Its North Sea coast is dotted with fishing villages, rugged cliffs and long sandy beaches. Katharine Cameron has pictured the village of St Monans and the remains of Newark Castle, partially lost to coastal erosion. Cameron was associated with a group of artists known as the Glasgow Girls and is perhaps best known for her stylised images of flowers, butterflies and bumblebees.
