Roy Lichtenstein

Roommates

About this artwork

This print from Lichtenstein’s ‘Nudes’ series brings together a number of motifs the artist was concerned with during this time. In particular, it relates to a series of Interiors Lichtenstein produced which featured art-filled domestic spaces. Sometimes these included his own works or his representations of the work of others artists. Hanging on the wall at the left of this print, is Lichtenstein’s version of a painting by the Dutch De Stijl artist Theo van Doesburg. Lichtenstein based the composition of the two figures on images of women in the November 1963 edition of the comic book ‘Young Love’.
