Murdo MacLeod

Mark Millar, b. 1969. Comic book writer

About this artwork

Millar is a multi-award winning comic book writer from Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. As a teenager Millar was inspired after meeting the renowned comic book writer, Alan Moore. However, it was not until he suffered financial problems whilst at university following his parents’ deaths that he decided to make a career out of writing. Since then Millar has written some of the most iconic comic stories of recent years, including ‘Ultimate Fantastic Four’, ‘Wanted’ and ‘Kick-Ass’. Several of his stories have been made into successful films. In this photograph Millar is shown in a cinema; perhaps a reference to Millar’s increasing involvement in producing his work as films. In 2013 Millar received an MBE for his services to literature and drama.
