Joan Miró

Le Lezard aux Plumes d'Or

About this artwork

This is from a series of 15 colour lithographs based on Joan Miró’s poem and surrealist fantasy, Le Lézard aux Plumes d’or. His use of splattered lithographic ink and lithographic crayons, contrasted with areas of solid, flat colour, demonstrates the flexibility of the lithographic technique in expert hands. Miró printed the series at the Mourlot print workshop in Paris, which was also used by Picasso (1881–1973), Matisse (1869–1954) and Mary Cassatt (1844–1926).
