Joan Kathleen Harding Eardley, 1921 - 1963. Artist
About this artwork
Marzaroli is known for his distinctly Glaswegian photography and filmmaking. This photograph shows the artist, Joan Eardley, at work in her Townhead studio with some of her canvasses of Glasgow children behind her. The Samson family who lived in the Glasgow tenements, depicted in Eardley’s paintings and drawings, were also photographed by Marzaroli. Eardley's 'primitive' style and her use of graffiti link her work with that of her contemporaries in Europe, particularly Dubuffet, Jorn and Wols.
