About this artwork
Paxton Brown’s interest in fashion and clothing can be seen in images such as this one, where the pattern and movement of textiles are the main focus. Fra Newbury, Director of Glasgow School of Art when she was a student there, was well-known for his teaching methods that encouraged freedom of expression. Paxton Brown has expressed her gratitude to him for not restricting her style of drawing. At Glasgow School of Art she was free to develop her energetic style of drawing and painting from memory.
