The great majority of Morandi’s paintings use the same objects in different arrangements. Although Morandi is dealing primarily with shape, space and colour, and seems to avoid all hint of symbolism or narrative, his choice of subject matter and manner of presentation nevertheless suggest qualities of modesty, reflection and silence.
1963
In 1961 Lichtenstein began reproducing the imagery of cartoon strips and advertising, employing the dot patterns (‘benday dots’) found in commercial reproductions. In the Car is one of a series of paintings based on the theme of love and romance and utilises a cartoon featured in the September 1961 issue of Girls’ Romance.
Painted when Picasso was nearly ninety, this nude portrayal shows Picasso's second wife, Jacqueline Roque. The explicit nature of late works such as this led many to dismiss them as the work of a senile, if famous figure.
Picasso's late works - utterly free in their uncompromising subject matter and style - are now widely seen as among his best.
American artist David Schutter spent three weeks studying Vase of Flowers (about 1760), by Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin, as it hung in the National Gallery of Scotland.
In Chicago, Schutter created five paintings, called after NGS C, attempting to re-make the surface of the Chardin, using the same palette, materials and canvas size as those used by the eighteenth-century French artist.

Work No. 975 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT is typical of the playful and minimalist nature of Creed's work. Visually spectacular in its neon audacity, the work, however, encourages a more contemplative response. Although it is at first an overtly familiar and reassuring phrase, it plays on our personal insecurities and gently suggests what if everything is not alright.
