USER GROUP DISCO 2009

HD video, colour, sound

Running time: 15 minutes

Gifted through the Contemporary Art Society's Acquisitions Scheme, 2011

Price was born in Bradford and is based in London. She studied at the Ruskin School of Art at Oxford University, the Royal College of Art in London and received her PhD in Fine Art from Leeds University in 1999. She works mainly with digital video.

USER GROUP DISCO is the second video in Price's series NEW, RUINED INSTITUTE. Each episode in the series takes place in a different room within a fictional institute created by the artist. USER GROUP DISCO is set in the Hall of Sculptures, although only a series of mundane objects and utensils is visible, swirling in a black void. There is no evident architecture or human presence. Text flashes up on the screen, building a narrative around the objects, the institutions which hold them and consumerism. The work is accompanied by a soundtrack developed especially for the video.

On show in Room 22, Modern One, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
