How to Wear a Great Kilt
You will need a belt and a piece of plaid/fabric - preferably at least 1.5 metres wide and 4.5 metres long (longer is better).
- Lay your belt on the floor with the inside facing upwards.
- Lay your kilt material over the belt (the belt should be at waist level and the hem of the kilt should cut across your kneecaps).
- Pleat the kilt from the middle outwards to both sides by gathering the material into folds. Pleat from waist level downwards.
- Lay down on the kilt ensuring that the bottom hem reaches the kneecaps.
- Take one side of the kilt and pull it across your body until it rests on the opposite leg.
- Pull the other side over the first (don’t worry if you lose a few pleats).
- Adjust your belt to waist level, fasten it and stand up.
- For the upper part of the great kilt, pull the flap of fabric above the belt over your shoulder and tuck it into the waist. The flap can be as narrow or as wide as you want.
Congratulations! Enjoy wearing your Great Kilt!
