Running Time
is the first ever exhibition dedicated exclusively to artist films in Scotland. Divided into five broad themes, the programme changes weekly over the five-week run of the show.

Highlights on loan from Scottish film archives include David Hall's influential Television Interruptions, originally shown unannounced on Scottish Television in 1971, and Margaret Tait's poetic Orcadian tributes such as Where I am is Here (1964).

Contemporary films from award-winning artists will be presented, including Luke Fowler's fresh take on documentary realism in Pilgrimage from Scattered Points (2006) and Henry Coombes' powerful drama The Bedfords (2009) set in 19th-century Scotland.

A series of short animated films by David Shrigley, Katy Dove and many more will be screened, along with a selection of films by recent graduates, revealing the continuing quality of film-making across Scotland.

Glasgow-based artist Torsten Lauschmann has been commissioned by the Gallery of Modern Art and funded by the Scottish Arts Council to create an artwork to complement Running Time. For the duration of the exhibition a film will be projected on the ceiling in the Dean Gallery entrance hall, creating a dramatic prelude to the exhibition.
