Welcome

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery provides a unique visual history of Scotland, told through the portraits of those who shaped it. It is also home to Scotland’s incredible national photography collection and a programme of special exhibitions. It is centrally located, a couple of minutes’ walk from Princes Street, on the edge of Edinburgh’s historic New Town.

Opening Hours
Open daily, 10am-5pm.
Late night opening every Thursday until 7pm.

Last entry to the show is 30mins before closing time.

Access
There is wheelchair access to all parts of the Gallery (entrance to the Gallery is via a ramp to the right hand side of the building). There is also a specially adapted toilet and lift.

On Foot

2 minutes’ walk from Princes Street.

By Bus

All city centre routes serve either Princes Street, St Andrew’s Square or Queen Street, all within short walking distance of the Gallery.

By Train

The Portrait Gallery is a few minutes’ walk from Waverley Station.

By Car

Follow routes for City Centre and City Centre Attractions. There is no car park at the gallery, and very limited on-street parking near the venue. We recommend you park your car in one of the many City Centre car parks instead, the nearest being the NCP Car Park at the St James Shopping Centre.
