The Naked Portrait

6th June to 2nd September 2007 | Tickets £6 (£4)

This exhibition asks us to confront our attitude towards the human body. Nakedness seems essentially private. It may have cultural connotations of a more ‘natural’ state of being, yet in virtually all societies it is taboo.

Naked portraits can have a powerful and direct impact. Our response to any particular example is informed by our personal sense of identity and also our awareness of the stereotypes of physical beauty in mass-media advertising. We are forced to consider our relationship with our own body.
