Hawthornden Lecture Theatre - Gardens Entrance (Scottish National Gallery)

In 1853, the great art critic John Ruskin delivered four lectures at the Philosophical Institution in Queen Street, Edinburgh. His themes were Gothic Architecture versus Classical, Turner and the European Landscape tradition, and the emergent group of artists who called themselves ‘The Pre-Raphaelites’. His brilliant and controversial lectures have exerted their influence ever since. Following sell-out performances in 2011 and 2012, the actor and art historian Paul O’Keeffe recreates the four lectures given by the great Victorian art critic. 11 August: Architecture I ; 12 August: Architecture II; 14 August: Turner and his Works; 15 August: Pre-Raphaelitism.
