On Slippery Ground: Kolf in the Art of the Dutch Golden Age

  • Friday, 15th August 2014, 12.45-1.30pm
  • Free

Hawthornden Lecture Theatre - Gardens Entrance (Scottish National Gallery)

Tico Seifert, Senior Curator at the Scottish National Gallery, will discuss ‘kolf’, a game often cited as one of modern-day golf’s antecedents, in Dutch art. Analysing works by Hendrick Avercamp and Rembrandt, amongst others, and comparing them with descriptions of the game from the seventeenth century, a lively picture of historical games and pastimes emerges.

No booking required: free, unticketed.
