Tracey Emin is past mistress at drawing on forms and expressions usually considered beyond the pale - femininity, cuteness, bathos, sentimentality. Her cat, Docket, watches over whatever she is getting up to in bed. She offers us a family of meercats as a suitable icon to sit on a plinth in Trafalgar Square. Birds twitter in branches. Like the pied piper of Hamlyn, she draws us willy nilly into her work, yet turns the tables on us as we realise that while she is the one who reveals all, it is we who are left feeling exposed.

A talk by Andrea Rose, Director of Visual Arts, British Council.
