Welcome

Built in the 1830s as an orphanage, the Dean Gallery is now home to special exhibitions, the National Galleries of Scotland’s world-famous Dada and Surrealist collection, and an outstanding selection of works by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi. It is set in beautiful grounds, and has a shop and café as well as gallery spaces.

Directly opposite the Dean Gallery is the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Opening Hours
Open daily, 10am-5pm.

Last entry to the show is 30mins before closing time.

Access
There is wheelchair access to the Gallery directly from the car park at the rear entrance. Near this entrance is a specially adapted toilet and lift and all parts of the building are accessible by wheelchair.

Getting There
The Dean Gallery is on Belford Road, near Haymarket and Edinburgh‘s West End. Select here for a map.

On Foot

15 minutes’ walk from the West End of Princes Street.

By Bus

A free gallery bus goes to the Dean Gallery from the city centre every 45 minutes, every day. You can catch it outside the National Gallery of Scotland, which is located on Princes Street/The Mound. Alternatively, catch the Number 13 bus from city centre bus stops (£1 single).

By Train

The Dean Gallery is a few minutes’ walk from Haymarket Station, down Palmerston Place.

By Car

The Gallery of Modern Art and Dean Gallery have free car parks. If travelling from North of Edinburgh, stay on the A90 after the Forth Road Bridge and head for City Centre. At the Queensferry Terrace roundabout you will see City Centre Attractions signposted. Take this exit (i.e. turn right) and the Dean Gallery is 100 metres along the road on the left hand side. If the Dean Car Park is full you can use the Gallery of Modern Art car park across the road.

For all other routes, follow signs for West End or Haymarket. At the Haymarket junction, turn onto Palmerston Place (a Boots pharmacy will be on your left hand side), signposted A90 (Forth Road Bridge). The Dean Gallery is 200 metres along the road, on the right hand side.
