We are open daily from 10am to 5pm (7pm on Thursdays).

Come face to face with Scotland, past and present, at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. See 17 exhibitions and some exceptional must sees. There are also 41 events to attend.

Admission is free. A charge may be made for special exhibitions.

Romantic Camera: Scottish Photography & the Modern World | Scottish Photography & the Modern World

The opening masterpiece exhibition of the new Photography Gallery highlights some of the greatest works in the National Galleries of Scotland photography collection.

This portrait was painted on Samoa where Stevenson, the author of Treasure Island and Kidnapped, had been living for three years. The artist, Count Nerli, has caught the writer’s look of tiredness and strain, the effects of a lifetime of ill-health.
