Patrons
For 25 years the Patrons of the National Galleries of Scotland has been a focal point for the growing number of people who have an enthusiasm for art, a fondness for the national collection and a commitment to ensure that its quality is maintained for future generations to enjoy.
The Patrons plays a crucial role in the work of the National Galleries of Scotland, and their generosity has enabled us to acquire around 1,200 individual items, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, manuscripts and furniture.
Additionally, through contributions and activities, the Patrons has provided valuable help with funding for exhibitions, and major projects such as the Playfair Project at the Scottish National Gallery, and currently Portrait of the Nation – the transformation of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
The annual overseas Patrons’ tour, led by a senior curator from the Galleries, is one of the highlights of the year and is enormously popular. These tours not only include visits to major galleries and museums with expert guidance, but also enable Patrons to see magnificent art collections in private houses not usually open to the public.
Many other exciting visits and initiatives are always being planned. These include private views of exhibitions, exclusive evenings with curators, breakfasts and tours of the collection before the Galleries are open to the public, guided tours of exhibitions, and an annual summer party.
We would be delighted to welcome you as a Patron of the National Galleries of Scotland.
