Acquisitions Close
One of our key responsibilities is to develop and enrich our national collection with new acquisitions. It is not all about multi-million pound masterpieces, as many of the smaller acquisitions also make a big impact.

The National Galleries of Scotland constantly strives for a balance of promoting artists associated with Scotland and bringing the best of international art to our audiences. In addition to our critically acclaimed visiting exhibitions we work hard throughout the year to bring different aspects of our own collection into focus and to give new insights for regular and first time visitors.

Conservation Close
Our extensive collection of paintings, frames, works on paper, photographs, and sculpture needs to be cared for. In addition, we have to look after all the works lent to us during our busy exhibition programme. We need an array of specialist materials and highly trained staff to make sure that we can preserve the collection for future generations to enjoy.

We want to make our collections available to as many people as possible and to make our visitors’ experience as enjoyable as possible. This includes everything from increasing the number of works from our collection available online, to providing lightweight stools for visitors to use.
