The following terms and conditions listed below will apply to you and National Galleries of Scotland Online for the sale and purchase of the items contained in your basket. The terms do not affect your statutory rights.

Online Purchases

 

Availability of goods and prices

Goods will be sent to the name and address given by you and stated in the order confirmation email. Please note that your order may be sent in more than one delivery. All custom print purchases are sent separately from any other purchase.

We make every attempt to ensure that the prices on our website are accurate.

Confirmation of order

By ordering a product you accept our terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are subject to change at any time, and it is your responsibility to check these terms and conditions before ordering products in case of any changes.

Order information

You are responsible for the input and accuracy of order information.

Order Confirmation

After payment of your order, you will be sent an email confirmation. It will state the items you have ordered, the total cost including VAT (where appropriate) Posting and Packing charges and delivery details. If for any reason your order could not be processed a member of our team will be in touch.

Our Contract

The contract for sale will not exist between you and National Galleries of Scotland Online until your order has been dispatched. You will receive a shipping confirmation email when your order has left our warehouse.

Data Protection

Your information will not be available to other companies; we will keep a record of your address with the intention of delivering your order. See our Website terms of use for more information.

Information you entered when registering for an account and placing your order may be used to contact you for operational issues, or other issues which may arise with your order during and after payment.

Payment

Online payments are in Pounds Sterling. All credit and charge card holders are subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer. If the issuer of your payment card refuses to authorise payment to us, your order will not be accepted and we will not be liable for any delay or non-delivery.

Limitation of liability

While we take every care to provide an accurate and high quality service we can make no warranties as to the accuracy of the information on our web pages. The extent of our liability for any breach of these terms and conditions shall be limited to the value of the good ordered by you in the relevant transaction. The Website is provided on an as available basis without any representation or endorsement made and we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, in relation to the Website, or any transaction that may be conducted on or through the Website including but not limited to, implied warranties of non-infringement, compatibility, security, accuracy, conditions of completeness, or any implied warranty arising from course of dealing or usage or trade.

To the fullest extent permissible under Scottish Law, we disclaim any and all warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, in relation to the Products. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer, nor does it affect your Contract cancellation rights.

We make no warranty that the website will meet your requirements or will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the site or the server that makes it available are free of viruses or bugs or represents the full functionality, accuracy, and reliability of the Website. We will not be responsible or liable to you for any loss of content or material uploaded or transmitted through the Website.

We will not be liable, in contract, tort or delict (including, without limitation, negligence), pre-contract or other representations (other than fraudulent or negligent misrepresentations) or otherwise out of or in connection with the Conditions for: any economic losses (including without limitation loss of revenues, profits, contracts, business or anticipated savings); or any loss of goodwill or reputation; or any special or indirect losses suffered or incurred by that party arising out of or in connection with the provisions of any matter under the Conditions.

Nothing in the Conditions shall exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence or that of our servants, agents or employees.

Age Restricted Goods

We will not sell or deliver age restricted goods to anyone who is, or appears to be, under the age of 18. By placing an order you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and we reserve the right to refuse to deliver if we are unsure of this. Our courier may ask for age verification on delivery for restricted goods such as knives and alcohol. If they are not satisfied that the recipient is over 18 they will return the item to our warehouse and we will issue you with a refund.

Tickets

Details of specific exhibition and event pricing can be found in the Exhibitions and Events sections of our website.

Concessions (proof required at time of entry to exhibition) appear in brackets after the main price e.g. 'Tickets £10 (£8)' indicates a concession price of £8. These are valid for:

  • Children aged 13-16 inclusive
  • Visitors aged 60+
  • Visitors with disabilities
  • Students
  • People on low income and in receipt of income support, housing benefit, or working tax credit
  • People whose sole income is from Department of Work and Pensions benefit

Art Fund memberships (proof required at time of entry to exhibition) receive 50% off ticket price for whichever ticket type is appropriate to the member.

Children 12 & Under, Friends of the National Galleries of Scotland, Patrons of the National Galleries of Scotland, and carers accompanying visitors with disabilities can enter our exhibitions free of charge.

Carers accompanying visitors with disabilities may often be able to attend our events free of charge however, some events have limited space, so these may be restricted to carers assisting but not participating. Please contact [email protected].

For all exhibitions with an admission charge, the following will apply for online e-tickets and physical tickets purchased while in the National Galleries of Scotland.

Purchasing or booking tickets

Tickets for temporary exhibitions and events can be purchased online and you will be emailed an e-ticket to the email address you provide during your order. The e-ticket will be required as proof of entry. You can also purchase tickets at the ticket desk at the exhibition venue.

Using e-tickets

e-tickets purchased online will be sent to the email address provided for your order and must be kept and shown at the door as proof of entry. You can either show the e-ticket on your device (mobile, tablet), or you can print off your e-ticket ahead of time and show the printout at the door.

If your e-ticket is for more than one person, please arrive with your group and enter the event together using the e-ticket

Your e-ticket is only valid for the date and time included on the e-ticket

Your e-ticket must be produced on demand at any time during your visit

Tickets returns and refunds

 

Exhibitions ticket cancellations and refunds

If you are unable to attend on the date on your e-tickets, please inform the Information Desk on 0131 624 6560 or at [email protected]

All exhibition tickets are non-refundable.

Event ticket cancellations and refunds

If you are unable to attend the event, please inform the Information Desk on +44 (0) 131 624 6560 or at [email protected] as soon as possible as we do keep waiting lists.

Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds or transfer bookings to another date unless there is a waiting list and someone can take your place or if the course or event is cancelled.

'Our Friends' event ticket cancellations and refunds

If you are unable to attend the event, please inform the Friends Office on 0300 003 0057 as soon as possible as we do keep waiting lists. If you inform us more than 2 weeks prior to the event, a full refund will be given. If you inform us within 2 weeks or if you are cancelling at any time for a Bus Trip, a refund will only be given if we are able to re-sell the ticket(s).

Cancellations within 24 hours of the event are non-refundable.

Lost tickets

Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded, or replaced if lost. If the ticket is resold or transferred for profit or commercial gain other than by the appointed agent, it will become void and the holder may be refused entry or removed from the venue. The management reserve the right to refuse admission or terminate a visit.

Friends memberships and donations

 

Membership applications and renewals

New Friends memberships and renewals will be dispatched from the Friends Office within 10 working days of receipt of your order by second class mail.

All Friends memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable.

We will use the personal information you provide to administer your Friends membership and, if you have given your consent, to send you the ebulletins which you have asked to receive.  We will manage your data in line with current data protection laws and will not share your data with third parties other than to fulfil the terms of your membership and to distribute our mailings. 

You can unsubscribe from our ebulletins at any time using the link at the bottom of the emails or by emailing [email protected]. For full details of the data we collect and what we do with it, please see our privacy notice or contact the Friends Office.

Gift Memberships

Friends membership gift vouchers will be delivered by email, either to the purchaser or directly to the recipient, immediately or on the date of the purchaser’s choice. The Friends membership will begin when the recipient redeems their voucher.

If they redeem their voucher online, they will immediately have access to their online benefits, such as booking free exhibition tickets, and their welcome pack and Friends membership card will be dispatched by post within 10 working days. If they redeem their voucher in person in the Galleries, they will be given a temporary membership card which they can begin using straight away and their welcome pack and permanent card will follow by post.

Friends discount in The Scottish Cafe and Restaurant and Cafe Espresso

The Scottish Cafe and Restaurant and Cafe Espresso offer a 10% discount to our Friends.

To claim your 10% discount please show your valid Friends membership card when you ask for the bill so the staff can deduct the necessary discount prior to the bill being prepared.

The offer extends to one additional guest.

Gift shop and Custom Print orders
 

Delivery

All deliveries will be contactless from our delivery suppliers. Please note that there may be some delays on delivery. We are following safe working guidelines as advised by Scottish Government.

United Kingdom: Royal Mail. 1st Class is taking up to 10 days; longer for 2nd Class. Courier deliveries may also be experiencing some slight delays.

International: Most major export routes remain open, but shipments to some destinations are now suspended due to the lack of air transport. Please refer to Royal Mail for the current list United Kingdom, International or get in touch with us directly and we can check this for you at the time of your order.

We are unable to deliver signed for and custom print orders to Post Office boxes.
Deliveries outside of United Kingdom may be subject to duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Any such additional charges for customs clearance are the responsibility of you as the customer.

We shall have no liability to you for any failure to deliver goods you have ordered or any delay or defect to goods delivered that is caused by an event or circumstance beyond our reasonable control.

Custom prints

All of our custom print products are made to order.

For any custom print orders, you may cancel your order at any stage before, and up to seven (7) days after you have placed your order with us, provided we have not dispatched the relevant Products to you. To do this you must notify us in writing by sending an email to [email protected]
Once a custom print order has been shipped it can no longer be cancelled or replaced unless faulty or damaged.

Returns

If you wish to return a product purchased from our online shop your statutory rights will not be affected, please visit our delivery and returns section for advise.

Damaged Goods or incorrect deliveries

If you have returned the Products to us because your Order was incorrect, or if the Products are damaged or not as described, we will refund the price of the Products in full, together with any applicable delivery charges, and any reasonable delivery costs you incur in returning the item to us.

Revisions to Terms of Purchase

If we have to revise these Terms of Purchase as they apply to an Order already made by you, we will contact you to give you reasonable advance notice of the changes and let you know how to cancel the Contract if you are not happy with the changes. You may cancel either in respect of all the affected Products or just the Products you have yet to receive. If you opt to cancel, you will have to return (at our cost) any relevant Products you have already received and we will arrange a full refund of the price you have paid, including any delivery charges.

As a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to Products that are faulty or not as described. These legal rights are not affected by your right of return and refund or anything else in these Terms and conditions

Faulty or damaged

If you believe there is a fault with your goods you should notify us immediately. Where a genuine defect is found and the fault is rectifiable, reprints will be made and sent at the earliest opportunity. Faulty goods that cannot be rectified will receive a full refund instead.

National Galleries of Scotland promotional codes

Any National Galleries of Scotland offers, or discount codes will exclude Limited/Artist Editions, Tickets, Memberships and Custom Print products unless otherwise stated. Promotional codes must be entered in the promotional code box in your online basket to receive any valid offer being promoted. Discounts will also apply to any orders placed by telephone. Offers and discounts are subject to stock availability.

Promotional codes entitle you, at the time of ordering, to a saving on a new order placed with National Galleries of Scotland Online Shop. National Galleries of Scotland Online Shop reserves the right to decline to accept orders where, in its opinion, a promotion code is invalid for the order being placed.

Promotion codes are only valid for a limited period of time. The expiry date will be publicised with the relevant promotion code. Only one promotion code can be used per order, unless stated otherwise. Promotion codes are not valid in conjunction with any other promotion.
