Felicitas Vogler: World of Light

Patrick Elliott

Felicitas Vogler was married to one of Britain’s greatest artists, Ben Nicholson, but she was also a celebrated photographer in her own right. Born in Berlin, she began her career as a writer. On a trip to England in 1957 she visited St Ives in Cornwall, where she interviewed Ben Nicholson. They were married just six weeks later, and in 1958 moved to Switzerland. This book, the first on Vogler in English since The Quiet Eye of 1969, includes photographs taken as far afield as Tibet, China, Japan and New Zealand. Like Nicholson, she is attracted to abstract pattern, and to the quiet grandeur and natural rhythms of the landscape.
