Closing date: 26th March 2010 - Post: Programme Coordinator, ARTIST ROOMSSalary: up to £24,000 per annumReference: 9133Contract: One year fixed-term Location: Millbank, London
The aim of Tate is to increase public understanding and enjoyment of British art from the 16th century to the present day, and of international modern and contemporary art. The guiding principle for the ARTIST ROOMS is to create individual rooms devoted to particular artists, building a new national resource of contemporary art. Jointly acquired by National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) and Tate in 2008, the evolving collection currently includes the work of 32 artists.
Reporting to both NGS and Tate, you’ll work closely with the Managing Curator and the ARTIST ROOMS team to help deliver the touring programme and coordinate activity relating to collection care. Your role will include coordinating applications from Associate galleries and museums, signing off publicity materials, liaising with conservation and other internal staff, and budget monitoring. Attention to detail and the ability to build strong relationships and to facilitate clear communications between colleagues at both Tate and NGS and at participating Associate galleries and museums will be vital.
Degree educated (or equivalent), you’ll have experience of working in a museum, gallery or arts organisation. A natural organiser, you’ll be highly computer literate and be able to respond effectively to the demands of a multi-stakeholder environment. Interested in the work of NGS and Tate, you’ll be willing to travel to Edinburgh and other venues outside London occasionally. Some knowledge of Collections Management Databases such as Mimsy or TMS would be an advantage.
