Visitor Guidelines
To protect all materials, only pencils may be used to take notes. No pens, ink, glue, ink supplies, correction fluid, scissors, or any substance or equipment that could cause damage are allowed.
Laptops may be used in consultation with staff however the use of mobile telephones is strictly prohibited.
No photography, including digital photography, is allowed, however reproductions can be ordered through the National Galleries of Scotland Picture Library. Any questions regarding copyright, intellectual property matters or reproduction of any of the images on this website should also be directed to the Picture Library.
Very little material may be photocopied. If in doubt, please check with staff. Photocopies of material designated as permissible to copy will be completed by library staff on behalf of visitors. A charge applies for this service.
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
Visitors to the Modern Two Reading Room will be asked to sign the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Rules & Regulations on arrival.
Visitors to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Archive and Special Books Collection and the Paolozzi Archive will be asked to fill out the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Archives application form in advance of their visit.
Scottish National Gallery
Visitors to the Prints & Drawings Study Room and the Research Library will be asked to sign in on arrival.
Scottish National Portrait Gallery
Visitors to the Library will be asked to make an appointment in advance and fill in an Application to View form upon arrival. First-time visitors to the Library will be asked to show some form of ID such as a passport or driver’s licence.
