Two separate concerns regarding the condition of this work were addressed in 2005. The first was the removal of dirt that had accumulated on the unvarnished surface over years in the ledges and crevices formed by the thickly-applied paint.

The second was a greenish-yellow oily staining on the surface that was caused by an overheating of the paint shortly after it was painted. This stain was most obvious in the lower part of the face and the figure’s right hand.
