Marcel Duchamp’s Boîte en valise is one of the twentieth century’s most important works of art. Its complex construction requires particular care.

The twenty-four 'deluxe' versions of the box are bound in leather – standard versions are simply covered in cloth - and all have a hand-coloured ‘original’ in the lid. The National Galleries of Scotland owns number two in the series,  our 'original' is The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even, which is reproduced on a sheet of transparent cellulose acetate.
