Curatorial staff at the National Galleries of Scotland have responsibility for the care and research of the collection. This encompasses many activities, including:

  • cataloguing
  • arranging the display of objects
  • assessing conservation needs
  • evaluating loan requests
  • recommending new acquisitions
  • offering advice on attributions of objects
  • providing texts for display and for other departments’ needs
  • writing specialist articles and lectures
  • organising temporary exhibitions
