Granton Centre for Art

The Granton Centre for Art is Scotland’s first purpose-built art store for paintings, drawings and sculptures from the national collection. Designed by Building Design Partnership, Glasgow, and completed in 2002, it provides 1,300 square metres of secure and climate-controlled storage space.

Guided tours offer the opportunity to discover how a state-of-the-art picture and sculpture store actually works. Included on the tours are a specially commissioned photography exhibition that goes behind the scenes at the National Galleries of Scotland, a frame conservation display and treasures such as the world’s largest collection of phrenological heads.

Tours lasting approximately thirty minutes are conducted every Tuesday at noon and 3:30pm.

To book a tour, telephone 0131 467 0466 by 11am on the preceding Monday. We allow up to fifteen people on each tour. Notification at time of booking is required for wheelchair users or visitors who have difficulty with stairs.

Please note that the guided tours have been temporarily suspended until further notice.
