Storm in a Corsican Village (Erbalunga)
About this artwork
As Redpath’s reputation grew during the 1950s, she began to travel extensively. Each trip inspired a new series of works. She visited Corsica in 1954 and continued to paint its landscapes and houses after her return to Edinburgh, basing her works on sketchbook studies. This work demonstrates her developing interest in the forces of nature and how they affected the landscape and its inhabitants. Redpath commented that she "would exaggerate the buttress quality of the building… then therefore it looked as if it was growing out of the hill".
