Trails
Our trails are just as much fun for adults as for children and a great souvenir of your visit to take away.
At the Scottish National Gallery collect one of our free activity trails, especially designed for children by writers and illustrators James Mayhew and Catherine Rayner from the information desk in the Weston Link. Pencil cases filled with coloured pencils can be borrowed for a small deposit.
At the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art explore our fabulous sculptures with our magical sculpture trail.
At the Scottish National Portrait Gallery a suite of dynamic new gallery trails have been created for explorers of all ages. Simply pick one up and begin your journey of discovery!
Art Cart and Bags of Art (Ages 4-12)
For hands-on family fun, take part in our free, drop-in art activities running twice a month with artists Tessa Asquith-Lamb and Louise Fraser.
An activity sheet tells you about a particular exhibit in the gallery, giving step-by-step instructions on how to make your own related work of art. Once complete, you can take your masterpiece home!
Art Cart is at Scottish National Gallery on the first Sunday of each month, 2-4pm.
Bags of Art is at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art on the third Sunday of each month, 2-4pm.

Portrait Detectives (Ages 4-12)
Become a Portrait Detective for the afternoon! Join Detectives Raeburn and Rothko as they attempt to keep order amongst the rogues and vagabonds in our portraits! Simply collect a detective kit, don your deerstalker and follow clues to solve a mystery from history.
Portrait Detectives is at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery every second Sunday of the month, 2-4pm.

Meet the Ancestors (Ages 4-12)
Who knows who you'll bump into at the Portrait Gallery! Every month there will be a magical storytelling session or an exciting drama session to help bring our portraits and their stories to life.
Meet the Ancestors is at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery every fourth Sunday of the month, 2-4pm.
