BP Portrait Award: Next Generation opens up free opportunities for 14 – 19 year olds to creatively engage with portraiture through the BP Portrait Award, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. Now in its third year at the National Portrait Gallery, London, BP Portrait Award: Next Generation and has successfully engaged and connected hundreds of young people interested in portraiture with practising artists through short taster Sessions and Summer Schools.

We are delighted to be hosting BP Portrait Award: Next Generation at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery this winter. Four Taster Sessions and two, two-day Winter Schools will take place and are open to young people from all over Scotland.

Taster sessions focus on experimenting with drawing techniques in the BP Portrait Award exhibition. Winter Schools are more intensive and unfold over two days with painting and life drawing coached by past BP Portrait Award-winning artists.

A small number of travel bursaries are available to young people on application. These will be allocated to those whose geographical location would otherwise prevent them from taking part.

This project has been developed in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, London.
