The Education Department of the National Galleries of Scotland can provide CPD sessions for whole schools, departments, art forums and cluster groups.
These sessions cover a range of topics, such as:
- how art can support and extend the Curriculum for Excellence
- increasing teachers’ confidence in using object-based learning in the Galleries and the classroom
- developing teachers’ skills for looking at art
- using works of art in the classroom creatively
- practical experience in different art techniques
Sessions can be booked for a half day or full day. Contact the Schools Education Officer for more information.
Courses
Art Techniques for the Classroom
Cost Half Day - £10 per person
Full Day - £20 per person
This is an opportunity for teachers to use our well-equipped education rooms to learn and experiment with various art-making techniques. Courses are offered in drawing and painting, printmaking, 3-D work or textiles, broken down into teachable steps. Minimum 5 teachers.
Specialist hands-on Workshops for Secondary School Teachers
Feeling a bit stuck in a rut? Led by a tutor with expert knowledge and experience, you can be creative yourself while learning how to adapt art activities successfully in a practical way, to the needs of your class. SQA, supported by the National Galleries of Scotland will be offering a series of professional development workshops for art and design teachers. Using the headware in the collection for inspiration, Felicity will lead a day-long course giving you the opportunity to make your own. Felicity designs for fashion houses, theatre and private commissions as well as teaching and lecturing.
