Practical Workshops
At the National Gallery of Scotland, Clore Education Centre
We offer practical art activities and courses, relating to the National Gallery of Scotland's permanent collection or temporary exhibitions, in areas such as painting, drawing, printmaking, 3D work, textiles and digital media. Popular courses have included experimental workshops in life drawing, portraiture, still life and landscape.
We also hold creative writing sessions and courses, linked to different themes or exhibitions, which support our annual creative writing competition Inspired? Get Writing!
The Drawing Room
At the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
Artist-led, contemporary drawing classes for adults and young people over the age of fourteen are held on the second Thursday of every month. Artists select a work from the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art's collection, then use it as the starting point for a practical workshop. Traditional techniques of drawing are central to these sessions, but more often than not the classes embrace related disciplines, using print, mixed media and unorthodox materials to explore different mark-making techniques.
Details of forthcoming events are listed in the What’s On Calendar.
