A programme of academic conferences and study days relating to particular exhibitions has been devised for adult learners. Previous events have included:

- Gauguin's Vision of the Sermon: Interpretation, Reception, Conservation (30 September 2005)
- In the Spirit of Rousseau: Ian Hamilton Finlay and The Philosopher's Garden (11 November 2005)
- Art and the Body: From Ancient Greece to the Present Day (28 & 29 September 2006)
- Henry Raeburn: Critical Reception and International Reputation (10 & 11 November 2006)
Courses
This is a new area of adult-learning activity that the Galleries’ Education Department is currently developing. Previous courses have included:
- The Age of Titian Art History Course (four-week course in November 2004)
- Contemporary Scottish Art History Course (six-week course in January and February 2006)
