A programme of academic conferences and study days relating to particular exhibitions has been devised for adult learners. Previous events have included:

• Claude and Court Culture in Seventeenth-Century Rome (17 February 2005)
• The Modern Self-Portrait: Before and After Warhol (12 March 2005)
• Gauguin's Vision of the Sermon: Interpretation, Reception, Conservation (30 September 2005)
• In the Spirit of Rousseau: Ian Hamilton Finlay and The Philosopher's Garden (11 November 2005)
• Art and the Body: From Ancient Greece to the Present Day (28 & 29 September 2006)
• Henry Raeburn: Critical Reception and International Reputation (10 & 11 November 2006)

Courses
This is a new area of adult-learning activity that the Galleries’ Education Department is currently developing. Previous courses have included:

• The Age of Titian Art History Course (four-week course in November 2004)
• Contemporary Scottish Art History Course (six-week course in January and February 2006)
