Congratulations to the winners of the National Galleries of Scotland Art Competition for Schools 2009 and thank you to all who entered.

5,796 works of art were received, in this the sixth year of the competition - a staggering 44% increase on last year.

What a mammoth task for the judges! They had a really tough time trying to select the winners from the fantastic work that came flooding in from all parts of Scotland, each piece inspired by artworks from the national collection.

The 53 winning pieces from nursery, primary, secondary and special education schools will be on show at the National Gallery Complex from 12th June to 20th October 2009. They will then be on exhibition as follows:

26 October 2009 - 13 January 2010 at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh
18 January 2010 - 14 March 2010 at The MacRobert Art Centre, Stirling
1 April 2010 - 19 May 2010 at The Lime Tree Gallery, Fort William

Full details of how to enter the 2010 competition will be available on nationalgalleries.org from September 2009.
