Communities and Access

The National Galleries of Scotland works with a range of community groups including community access groups, arts and special interest groups and lifelong learning groups.

The National Galleries’ buildings comply with all the requirements of the 2005 Disability Discrimination Act. They are fully wheelchair accessible, with the Scottish National Gallery Information Desk and Hawthornden Lecture Theatre, Scottish National Portrait Gallery Information Desk and Farmer Education Suite fitted with induction loops for the hard of hearing.

We also have portable hearing loops for visitors on guided tours at all of our galleries.

As well as disabled facilities, the Galleries’ ethos is to be as inclusive as possible for groups and individuals with disabilities. National Galleries staff are trained in working with groups with diverse visitor needs.
