Guided tours of the permanent art collections and paying exhibitions are FREE for community access groups. They last for 1 hour and must be booked with a minimum of three weeks’ notice.
We can offer descriptive tours for groups with visual impairment and tours with portable hearing loops for those with hearing impairment. There are two wheelchairs available at each gallery for visitors to borrow.
Groups may also book a self-guided visit and explore the National Galleries of Scotland under their own steam and free entry to special exhibitions can be arranged.
Memories are Made of This: Programmes for older people
A regular programme of themed reminiscence sessions, inspired by the collections at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Sessions are suitable for community groups, care homes and those with Dementia. These flexible sessions last 1.5 hours and comprise a short gallery tour and the chance to explore our resource boxes. Over a cup of tea and refreshments, participants are invited to share memories and socialise in a relaxing environment.
Our reminiscence themes are: Sports & Hobbies, Childhood, Working Life, and Entertainment
We hold regular special events such as tea dances, concerts or art workshops for older people linked to themes within the collections.
