Role-playing was a central aspect of many of Warhol?s self-portraits. In 1981 the artist was videoed and photographed wearing various wigs and make-up. The video was produced for `Andy Warhol?s TV on Saturday Night Live?. Christopher Makos, a member of Warhol?s close circle of friends, described the process as a ?Dadaist experiment?The point was not drag itself but the altered image. It had nothing to do with trans-sexuality. As you can see: no stuffed bras, no artificial fingernails. Only the face is altered?.
