La Marie mise a nu par ses celibataires même (Boîte verte) [The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even (The Green Box)]
1934
`The Green Box? contains a mass of preparatory notes, sketches and photographs relating to Dunchamp?s `The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even?. All the documents are, however, incredibly accurate facsimiles of the originals: torn notes were reproduced as torn notes, folds and pin-holes were carefully recreated. Commenting on the idea behind the Green Box, Duchamp said: ?I wanted that album to go with the `Glass?, and to be consulted when seeing the `Glass?, because as I see it, it must not be `looked at? in the aesthetic sense of the word. One must consult the book, and see the two together. The conjunction of the two things entirely removes the retinal aspect that I don?t like.? Duchamp produced twenty de-luxe copies of The Green Box of which this is one.
